    Vote NO on Issa Bill

    The presidents of the four postal employee unions – the APWU, the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union – have written to members of the House of Representatives, urging them to vote against a postal bill drafted by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA). The bill is scheduled for consideration by the committee on Wednesday, May 7.

    California Lands 1-2 Punch Against Staples Deal: House Delegation Urges PMG to Reject Deal; Teachers Vote to Boycott Staples

    (04/30/14) California opponents of the USPS deal with Staples delivered two stunning blows to the program yesterday: Thirty members of the U.S. House of Representatives from California called on Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe to reject the program, and the California Federation of Teachers voted to boycott Staples. "The USPS-Staples program is a dramatic step in the wrong direction, as it threatens the livelihoods of thousands of USPS employees and jeopardizes the promise of universal mail service to all communities -- an obligation Staples, a private corporation, does not have," the U.S. representatives wrote in an April 29 letter to Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe.

    (04/29/14) APWU President Mark Dimondstein is urging APWU members to actively support the 22nd annual Letter Carriers Food Drive, which is set for May. 10. "I urge every APWU member to make a generous donation" he said. "But I also encourage our members to do more. I hope APWU locals -- and individual union members -- will volunteer to help with the organizational tasks that are necessary to ensure the success of the drive."
